Face sunscreen in Morocco: how to choose the right SPF

SPF, UVA, PA++++, mineral or chemical filters: everything you need to know to choose a face sunscreen suitable for your skin and the Moroccan sun.

For your face in Morocco, choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and ideally SPF 50, which also protects against UVA rays (circled UVA logo or PA+++ / PA++++ rating on Korean skincare products). Then, choose the texture according to your skin type: gel or fluid for oily skin, a richer cream for dry skin. The most important thing is to apply enough every morning and reapply regularly when you are in the sun.

In short

  • SPF = protection against UVB rays (sunburn). PA or UVA logo = protection against UVA rays (linked to skin aging).
  • For daily use, aim for at least SPF 30; SPF 50 if you spend time outdoors or if your skin marks easily.
  • The right texture is the one you will want to wear every day.
  • Quantity matters: about two finger lengths for the face and neck.
  • Reapply every two hours when exposed, and after swimming or sweating.

Why wear sunscreen every day in Morocco?

In Morocco, the sun is present for much of the year, and not just at the beach. UVA rays pass through clouds and glass, and we are exposed without realizing it: car rides, coffee breaks on terraces, shopping at the market. This is why sunscreen is the final step in any morning skincare routine, especially in K-beauty, which has made it a daily habit.

Sunscreen helps prevent sunburn and contributes to limiting the appearance of dark spots and signs of sun-related aging. It also protects the work of your other skincare products: a radiance serum without sunscreen is half an effort wasted.

SPF, UVA, PA: how to read the label

SPF: protection against UVB

SPF (Sun Protection Factor) indicates the level of protection against UVB rays, which cause sunburn. According to standard guidelines, SPF 30 filters about 97% of UVB rays and SPF 50 about 98%. The difference seems small, but it matters for fair skin, skin that marks easily, and prolonged exposure.

The UVA logo and PA rating: protection against UVA

UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin and are associated with skin aging. On European products, the "UVA" logo surrounded by a circle indicates UVA protection in accordance with European recommendations. On Korean and Japanese skincare products, you will find the PA rating: from PA+ to PA++++, the more "+" signs, the higher the UVA protection.

Broad spectrum

A "broad spectrum" sunscreen protects against both UVA and UVB rays. This is what you should look for for your face.

Mineral filters or chemical filters?

Sunscreens use two main families of filters, often combined:

  • Mineral filters (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide): often appreciated by sensitive skin. They can leave a slight white cast depending on the formula.
  • Chemical filters (also called organic): generally more fluid and invisible textures, pleasant under makeup.

Both protect effectively when the product is well formulated and well applied. Choose according to your comfort and your skin's tolerance.

Korean sunscreens: why they are so popular

Korean sunscreens are highly sought after in Morocco, and it is no coincidence. They often rely on very light textures that absorb quickly and leave little or no white cast. Many combine protection with skincare ingredients (centella, hyaluronic acid, rice extracts, aloe vera), which makes them pleasant to wear daily, even under makeup.

They generally display their UVA protection with the PA rating. A product rated SPF 50+ PA++++ offers the highest level of protection on this scale.

Applying your sunscreen properly

The right quantity

This is the most common mistake: we apply too little, which reduces the actual protection. A simple guideline is to place two lines of product along the length of the index and middle fingers for the face and neck.

The right time

  • Apply it as the last step of your morning skincare routine, after moisturizer.
  • Let it absorb for a few minutes before applying makeup.
  • Do not forget the ears, neck, nape, and upper décolletage.

Reapplying

When exposed, reapply every two hours, and after swimming, sweating, or drying with a towel. If you are wearing makeup, sunscreen sticks and mists make touch-ups more convenient, like the SKIN1004 Hyalu-Cica Silky-Fit stick.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Relying on the SPF of foundation: we never apply enough to get the indicated protection.
  • Only wearing sunscreen at the beach: daily exposure counts too.
  • Keeping an open tube since last summer: respect the period after opening indicated on the packaging (the small open jar with a number, for example "12M").
  • Leaving your sunscreen in direct sunlight or in the car: heat can alter the formula.
  • Forgetting sensitive areas: eye contour, lips, ears.

Frequently asked questions

SPF 30 or SPF 50: which one to choose?

A well-applied SPF 30 is suitable for daily use in the city. Prefer SPF 50 if you spend time outdoors, at the beach, or in the mountains, or if your skin marks easily.

Should you wear sunscreen when it is cloudy?

Yes. Some UV rays pass through the clouds. In Morocco, where there is significant sunshine, the easiest thing is to make it a daily habit.

Can sunscreen replace moisturizer?

Some oily skin types are satisfied with a moisturizing sunscreen. Dry skin benefits from applying moisturizer first, then sunscreen.

What does PA++++ mean?

It is the UVA protection rating used on Korean and Japanese skincare products. PA++++ corresponds to the highest level on this scale.

Can sunscreen cause pimples?

A texture that is too rich may not suit oily skin. Choose a light formula, test it for a few days, and cleanse your makeup carefully in the evening. If imperfections persist, ask for a dermatologist's advice.
